The Departure of Xavi, the end of an era?

As the recent rumors suggest, Xavier Hernandez Cruz (35), has signed or will eventually sign a contract with Qatari Club - Al Sadd. Though he has denied the verity of the rumors several times, it seems it’s inevitable that the move will take place. The current Barcelona midfielder will earn a salary of €10 million and will study for his coaching licences during his time in Qatar at the Aspire Academy according to the rumors.

The name of Xavi Hernandez is associated with almost everything that has happened to FC Barcelona as a club in the past two decades. He has achieved supremacy with the club, for him there is nothing else left to climb, nothing left to achieve and at the age of 35 it seems obvious that he can no longer perform at the the levels demanded by a cub as big as Barcelona. However what seems to be the case isn’t always true. Even in Barça’s Liga game against Celta Vigo we saw the importance of the presence of Xavi who for almost 75 minutes of the game operated as more of an attacking-midfielder and then after his team finally broke the deadlock he switched to a holding role. Especially now since Barcelona have a transfer ban imposed on them, they surely could benefit from the services of Xavi for at least another season.

But if Xavi now wants to look away from his Barcelona journey and put it behind him. It makes one thing very clear,  the magical golden era of FC Barcelona is ending and the trio placed at the heart of it, is separating. While people might be enjoying the trio of the present “The MSN” they all know in their hearts that it isn’t nearly as amazing as the Holy Trinity was.

Messi, Xavi and Iniesta — the Holy Trinity. This trio, at the absolute peak of its powers, could convince anybody that magic is real and it can happen on a football pitch. And, for the better part of the last 7 years, has dominated world football. Together they have achieved feats that clubs at their best could only dream of.
The separation of this trio marks the end of an era. A golden era. And this trio surely is one of the best, if not the best to have ever graced the football pitch.

The Holy Trinity will be missed.
